Life is a Process with Mystery, Beauty, and Hope

Life is a process.

There is as much mystery as there is beauty in how God designed life. Consider the seed, and see the dream God put in you as a seed. The dream for the life you know you are called to live. The dream that seems elusive and impossible. The dream you have your family. The dream you have for your home. The dream you have for relationships. The dream you have to be a creative. The dream you have no idea how you are going to live. There is more than one thing you long for, I have no doubt.

Consider the seed, and the growing process.

Nature shows us how big things often begin small as a seed. Even a child can understand a fruit like an apple first begins as a seed. The seed looks nothing like the apple it produces, and that is the beautiful mystery. Let us imagine we have never seen an apple or an apple tree, yet we hold its seed.

"Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed." -- Robert H. Schuller #deliberate31days

We cannot tell by looking at the seed, holding the seed, or even dissecting the seed what will be produced from it. But God knows everything about it. We cannot predict the size and shape of the tree, we cannot even tell the apple seed will be a tree that will produce apples. The apple seed does not resemble the apple, yet it contains a number of apples only God can count. God knows all of its potential and sees its end from the beginning. Packed into that small casing is the potential to grow and produce abundant fruit, given the right conditions.

We are called to do the same.

Yet, we cannot make the seed grow. We cannot will it. We cannot tell it, “Seed become an apple.” No, there is a growing process. It needs the proper environment to grow. If we place the seed in an envelope and tuck it away in a drawer, it will remain only a seed filled with the potential to become a fruit bearing apple tree. But if we sow it into fertile ground, then the process begins.

Consider your life the soil, and God the dream-seed giver. Somewhere along the way you asked God to use you. You asked Him to do something with your life. You surrendered all. You told Him, “Here am I, Lord. Send me.”

He offered a dream-seed, and gave you a vision and hope of what it could become. Then you had to decide if it would be planted. Fear might have struck you, persuading you the vision is too grand and impossible. The, “What ifs?” might have paralyzed you. And the uncertainty convinced you, “You are not capable. You don’t have what it takes. You’re not good enough. Don’t bother.”

So, you quickly packed the seed and hid it away before anyone else could see. Before you would dare to believe such an audacious vision was really a picture of what God wanted for you.

That was me.

Fear held me back, and tries still. I kept those dream-seeds at arm’s length. I tried over and over to give them back to God. Over and over He said, “Until you make them your own, they are not yours to give.”

But making them my own required my yes, and I knew my yes would begin the process. The process of me growing, being made ready for the dream.

Have you begun the process? Where are you in it?

The dream seed is an important aspect to living a deliberate life. I chose to include it because it is tied in with our God-given purpose. Our God-given purpose is wrapped up in the dream He has placed in us, which is the direction we deliberately point our life.

Keep following along. We are headed somewhere. I promise.
